How to access ScienceDirect through NCI Library
TIP: Right-click on the database name and open in a new tab or window so you can easily return to the list of databases.
You may be prompted to sign in before the ScienceDirect page opens - use your college email and network password.
To start your search, use the search boxes to search by subject, title, or authors or... | |
Select the 'Journals & Books' option at the top to start browsing. | |
You can also start browsing by using the suggested topics on ScienceDirect's homepage. |
Select books from the 'Publication Type' filter. | |
Select all 3 options from the 'Access Type' filter so you only get results that you have full access to. | |
Use the search box at the top to adjust your search terms. |
Use the search box to search for information within the ebook. | |
You can browse the chapters of the ebook. | |
You can also view a summary of a chapter by selecting the 'View abstract' drop-down option. | |
To view a chapter online, select the 'Download PDF' option - this will take you to the online viewer where you have the option to read the chapter online or to download the PDF to your computer. | |
You also have the option to download the entire ebook. |
Use the search option to search for information within the chapter. | |
You have the option to print the chapter. | |
You can also download a PDF copy of the chapter to your computer. |
Use the 'Advanced Search' to filter your initial search - to select only ebooks, select 'Book Chapters' from the 'Article Types' options.
