Library Academic Support Centre: Lecturers: Appointments & Classes

If you have a student who needs assistance with their assignments, thesis or project in regards to the topics below, you can refer them to the Library Academic Support Centre. 

The Library Academic Support Centre provides assistance to students with the following:

• Using online resources
• Finding quality sources
• Search techniques
• Referencing
• Academic writing
• Literature reviews & theses/dissertations

Students can request an in-person or online appointment with us by going to the Student tabs of this guide. They can also contact us via email or drop into our office on the 5th floor of Spencer Dock.

If you are a lecturer teaching at NCI, you can book a class with the Library Academic Support Centre for your students. We offer a variety of classes for your students, we keep flexible hours and we can conduct the class in person or online.

You can request the following types of bespoke classes:

• Academic writing and referencing
• Accessing and using the library’s online resources
• Preparing for and writing a literature review

We recommend for any class that they are tied into particular assignments so that we can make the class more relevant and focused for the students.

How to book a class:

If you wish to book a class, please try to do so at least three days in advance by contacting us via email or in person.

Please provide us with the following information regarding the session you require:

1. Module and course details
2. Assignment or project details that you would like to link to the class
3. Details of what kind of help the students need
4. Specify the preferred date, time and location of the class

If you require an early evening or Saturday class, this is possible provided we are given enough notice and the time slot is available.

Whether your students are coming to college straight from school, a different country, or after years in work, they may find that it differs from any studying they have done before.

The Library Academic Support Centre is here to help students find their feet and to develop the skills they need to succeed in whatever challenges they face throughout their course. 

We provide a professional, friendly, and free service to all NCI students in every discipline and at every level of academic study at NCI.

The Library Academic Support Centre offers research support to lecturers as well. We can assist you with finding resources for your own research or advise you on meeting the referencing requirements of journals when submitting papers.
