How to do a Basic Search

Basic Search Guide

Here is a step-by-step guide for carrying out a Basic Search on Discovery:

Try Discovery!

Using Discovery Basic Search

Discovery Basic Search is simple and easy to use. You can begin a Basic Search on the NCI Library website or from Discovery's main page. Follow the Basic Search Guide video or pdf document to begin your search!

When to use Discovery Basic Search

  • When you are beginning your research.
  • When you need to browse and access online resources quickly.
  • When you are looking for an overview of resources that are available.

Discovery Quick Tip

Use Phrases

Using phrases instead of single search terms will help reduce the number of results. You can search for a phrase by combining single search terms in quotation marks " ".

For Example : "human resource management"

You can also use the Boolean operator AND to search for two phrases at once.

For Example: "human resource management" AND "employee engagement"

Check out the Search Tips Tab above for even more useful tips!
